no expected outcome (night photography) - wasps residency at the booth, shetland, july 24

I'm still reflecting on a two week residency at Wasps studio, The Booth in Scalloway, Shetland. I'm bringing together ten years work with low pressure sodium streetlights in a photobook and looking also for new ways to experience night environments through photography. Photographer friends, Robert Henderson and Christina Webber, joined me for a few days so we could support each other's work in progress. We held an open studio and artists' talk where we had some lovely insights from locals and visitors to the islands.  Key to our process was a sense of no expected outcome. The open window, which overlooks the harbour and hills, encouraged thinking at a pace difficult to find in everyday life and as I left I was through some barriers that that were blocking progress to a new phase of night photography
